As phase I studies are only carried out on healthy people, all volunteers undergo a rigorous medical prior to being selected to take part in a trial. 

This complimentary health check is carried out by the Unit’s highly qualified doctors and nurses and is referred to as ‘screening’. 

Volunteers of all ages find this detailed check-up very reassuring, especially if they have had no cause to visit their GP in the recent past.
